OK, I'm not going to lie, this hurts. I am continuously surprised (truthfully only somewhat) by how those outside of the VA world perceive us. However the perception is never going to change until WE make it change and the only way it's going to change is through education.

We've heard our entire lives that education is “key” and it is here as well. Those who know me will say that I am outspoken, so I will not hesitate to do so here. It’s time for some “edumacate’n”. LISTEN UP: You can NOT charge $10/hr as a VA and have a profitable business...NO way, NO how! Being a VA is a business, it's not a hobby or a way for a mom to make extra cash on the side. This is a business that needs to be respected in every way shape and form. For the most part, the VA industry is a “babe” it is virtually unheard of and it’s our job to educate the general public as to what a VA is. However there are those, who don’t take the business seriously who think that by undercutting professional VAs they will get the business. WRONG. (As stated before “If You Pay Peanuts You Get Monkeys”. About 95% of businesses I come in contact with totally understand this concept.) Instead their so-called “mission” is backfiring on the rest of us…they are aiding in the false perceptions. Not to mention we have business owners out there who are under the impression that VAs are employees of their organizations but are paid as contractors (ie. no taxes with-held). I could go on and on. Bottom line, I want your VA readers to be serious about their businesses (business plans, marketing plans, goals, etc), treat their business with respect and educate the general public wisely.

PS – Now that I’m off my tirade ;) I’ve re-read his post and it looks like he wanted an in-house assistant rather than a virtual assistant (because after all they wouldn’t be available at a moments notice to purchase staples). However I do find it sad that it appears as though (although I don’t know for sure) that this “miracle” is being paid as a contractor when clearly what’s written is geared towards an employee.

B :)

Today's economic downturn has resulted in ever-increasing numbers of dogs being surrendered to shelters and rescue groups. Giant Schnauzers are no exception. As a large working breed with a loving but stubborn personality, they are not suitable for everyone. However, if you are experienced with Rottweilers, Dobermans, German Shepherds or other large working breeds, you may be a perfect foster home. If you are interested in more information, please check our website: http://www.scgsr.com Foster and Adoption Applications are available on the website. Additionally, you will find a wealth of information about the breed on our website. THIS IS AN URGENT NEED. Although we are located in Southern California, we work with rescue groups across the country. If you are interested in more information, please email me directly. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Karalyn Eckerle, Director Southern California Giant Schnauzer Rescue, Inc.
